Frequently Asked Questions about Makeway WORKSHOP WEDNESDAYS


Question: WHO ARE THESE WORKSHOPS FOR? IS THIS JUST FOR Makeway Foundation employees? Or is this just for Project staff?

Answer: All are welcome! These learning opportunities are for anyone at both Makeway Foundation and Makeway Charitable Society who wants to further develop their leadership skills. We invite any employee, any leader, any steering committee member, any volunteer, any intern, with any title and any experience to attend. If you’re reading this (yes, you!!), you can attend any workshop we are offering.

Question: How do I sign up? 

Answer: Visit each leadership development workshop track page + click on the Registration links for the workshop dates and times that work best for you.

Register for Track 1: Leadership Fundamentals

Register for Track 2: The People Manager + Org Leaders Toolkit

 

Question: Can I attend just one workshop? Or do I need to attend all 10 workshops offered? 

 Answer: You are encouraged to attend all of the leadership workshops offered in either Track 1: Leadership Fundamentals or Track 2: The People Manager + Org Leader Toolkit. If you can’t attend all of them - that’s ok! Come to the sessions you are available for.

Question: When will the workshop be offered? How long are they? 

Answer: Each workshop will be 90 minutes. Each workshop topic will be offered twice, at different times and dates.  Pick the workshop that is best for you. 

Question: What is the workshop set-up? 

Answer: All workshops are being offered virtually using Zoom. You need access to a stable internet so you can join the session via a Zoom link. We’ll be sharing information in a full group training setting via zoom, and we’ll be using breakout room function for smaller group discussions.  

 

Question: I want to meet other PEOPLE AND NETWORK. Will this be part of the workshop experience?  

Answer: Yes! Breakout room activities will allow for all attendees to network, share ideas and build community. To manage expectations, these are 90-minutes sessions (they’ll go by fast!) - so we will get the networking started and participants will be encouraged to continue conversations after the workshops wherever you see value in doing so! 

Question: How do I know what is the right leadership development track or workshop for me? For my staff?  

Answer: Review the description of the audience that each track has been developed for. You might choose to ask specific people on your team to attend certain workshops because you want them to develop in that area. You can also use this as an opportunity for growth e.g. if someone is not yet a people manager but wants to grow in that area - send them to The People Manager + Org Leaders Toolkit track so they can level up their leadership skills.

Question: Can I get a copy of the materials we cover in the workshops afterwards? 

Answer: Yes! We’ll be sending all registered attendees the materials from the workshops following each session. You can expect PDF files and video walkthroughs that will summarize the research, tools, models and skills we covered in each session. 


Question: What happens if I miss a workshop? Can I sign up for the other workshop option? What if I miss both workshops? Will you be recording the sessions? 

Answer: We will send everyone who registers for a workshop all materials that we used in the session. You can expect PDF files and video walkthroughs that will summarize the research, tools, models and skills we covered in each session. So if you missed the session that you registered for, you’ll still get the materials afterwards.  We will not be recording the live sessions in efforts to create a safer learning environment for the attendees. 

 

Question: Why ARE THESE THE 10 WORKSHOP TOPICS? WHY NOT OTHERS?

Answer: These topics were selected based on survey data from Project staff and Makeway staff. These topics have also been selected based on how MakeWay’s People Engagement + Learning (PEL) department is seeing the need for people to gain skills and tools in these areas. We will collect feedback from all participants and continue to build out the learning opportunities you want and need! We delivered a fall series of leadership development workshop last fall and we’re back by popular demand!

 
 

Question: Who is designing and facilitating these workshops?  

Answer: Oh hi 👋 That’s me, Hannah Dubin. I’m a consultant, trainer and facilitator who has worked with MakeWay on a number of organizational development projects since 2021. I run this consulting firm called The Group Forward (the site you’re on now!). I designed and facilitated the internal professional development program for MakeWay Foundation people managers called “Manager Clinic” starting in 2021.
