learning collaborative

The best educators are those who embrace their inner student.

THE learning collaborative IS A network of education, human-centered design, and facilitation experts. We believe that Human-Centered Design tools and practices can be applied to making any work in education more learner-centered, innovative, and meaningful. This initiative grew out of our ongoing work with LREI’s Innovation Institute, where for the last four years, we’ve built a community of education professionals who participate in a multi-week DEEP DIVE Human-Centered Design Seminar. Through this initiative, we are offering additional, immersive learning opportunities to help educators learn more about the value and application of Human-Centered Design in their daily work.

What we’ve learned from working with educational professionals:

Human-Centered Design is inspiring as a whole process - and it is also effective when educators use different parts of the process. We are prototyping a workshop series that will teach you how. Learning Collaborative is offering a series of workshops for educators interested in exploring some of the ways that Human-Centered Design can affect meaningful change in your school cultures, programs, and teaching practices. We believe that Human-Centered Design tools and practices can be applied to making any work in education more learner-driven, innovative, and meaningful. Come learn how!

Recent Learning Collaborative Initiatives include:

LEARN+DO WORKSHOP 1: Change your Meetings, Change your School

Learn new tools + approaches for meeting design: Learn how to make your meetings matter more. Attend this workshop if you want to learn tools and ideas for how to design and deliver meetings at your school that are more effective and engaging for everyone involved. We will borrow practices from Human-Centered Design to inspire ways to build more buy-in from meeting attendees, democratize decision-making, and prompt excitement around the topics that matter at your school.  These routines are useful not just for those planning formal meetings, but also for informal meetings that bring smaller groups together. Whatever the format, we’ll explore practices that are grounded in making meetings purposeful and mission forwarding.

LEARN+DO Workshop 2:  Visual Communication: Show me what you mean

Learn new tools + approaches for visual communication: Learn how skilled communicators use simple visuals to explain complex concepts. Develop the skills you need to explain ideas more clearly and simply by adding visual lexicon to your communication tool belt. We will learn visual communication skills, and practice them individually and in groups. And no, you do not need to be an artist to join us - in fact, we welcome those who consider their drawing abilities, well, nonexistent. This isn’t about drawing; this is about becoming a better communicator.
